Board of Directors

Our Constitution reflects our commitment to our farmers, strong governance and fair voting rights. Organic Dairy Hub is incorporated under the Companies Act 1993 and listed as a Registered Co-operative under the Co-operative Companies Act 1996.

John Wafer

Board Appointed Chartered Director & Chair

John has vast experience in food manufacturing, marketing and distribution including dairy. Previously, John has held Senior Executive positions in both fresh liquid milk and the manufacturing dairy sector. He has experience in consumer, food service and ingredient marketing here in New Zealand, and in Australia and north Asia. John has a degree in Accounting and Marketing and has held numerous Board appointments both within the various business entities he has worked for and as an external Director. John also operates a certified organic orchard from his home property.

Ian Cumming
Farmer Director and Deputy Chairperson

Following completion of a business degree Ian joined Fletcher Properties (subsequently Fletcher Challenge Properties) as a commercial property manager. In 1982 Ian returned to the family farm, operating prime beef finishing for export and deer breeding programs. The 1995 purchase of a neighbouring property prompted a change to dairy farming. The desire to produce high quality product and a growing interest in long term sustainability led to conversion to certified organic production and early involvement in the formation of the Organic Dairy Hub Co-operative. Ian and his wife Anne farm at Woodville, they have three adult children.

Peter Harris
Independent Director

Peter has a career spanning 30 years in the fields of social enterprise, asset management, major project delivery, governance, management, and project consultancy.

Peter is an accomplished Board Chair and Company Director. He has led projects, commissions and held Board and senior executive roles for a wide variety of organisations across multiple sectors including:

Fonterra Shareholders’ Council, Animal Health Board, Hurunui Water Project, Awatea Biotechnology, Landcare Research, Lincoln University, Auckland Council, Genesis Energy, Air New Zealand, Telecom NZ, Goodman International, Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, the Office of the Auditor General, Canesis, Horizons Regional Council, Hamilton City Council, and Nurse Maude Association.

Peter is married to Ali and has five children. They live in Rolleston, Canterbury.

Cameron Farrand
Farmer Director

Cameron was raised on a dairy farm in Northland and after eight years of study and working in Hamilton, he and his wife Rosie, craved a slower pace of life and moved back to the family farm.

The farm became fully certified organic in his first season and although this was his first exposure to organics, Cameron enjoyed the ideology behind organic dairy farming. Cameron is passionate about creating a regenerative system and is constantly looking for ways to improve their business, not only to keep in-front of market demands, but also to create a sustainable, diverse environment for future generations.

Cameron appreciates that organic farming is a continual journey and opportunity for learning and personal growth, not only for him and his wife, but also their three young children, whom they school on the farm

Sharleen Gardner

Farmer Director

Sharleen has a background in Sales & Marketing & has served on school boards as well as being a contender in the Ballance Farm Awards.

Sharleen & her husband Nathan have worked progressively from sharemilking to purchasing the family dairy farm just south of Whangarei in 2001 and have built it up with additional land.

Sharleen & Nathan have 4 teenage children and are foundation shareholders of the Organic Dairy Hub – they have been certified Organic for 9 years.
